The state faced tough questions in the Supreme Court over 'negligence' in the police investigation into the case of rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The question was raised by the court on Thursday, why the body of the young doctor was recovered at 9:30 in the morning, but why it was so late to file a complaint. A complaint of unnatural death was filed at night and then an FIR was filed after the post-mortem was conducted in the evening.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud termed the 'delay' in filing an FIR by the police as a 'very disturbing incident'. The next hearing of the case is scheduled to be held on September 5.
However, according to senior advocate Kapil Sibal, there was no delay in filing the complaint of unnatural death on the information available to the state. But the Supreme Court said, Mr. It is said that the time mentioned in Sibal's tradition does not match the information presented in the court. The court directed the police officer to appear before the court on the next date of hearing to get correct information in this regard.
At the same time, a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud also directed the striking doctors to join the work.
During the Supreme Court hearing, the Chief Justice recalled the importance of emergency services such as justice system and medical system. During the live telecast of the hearing, the Chief Justice was heard saying, "Medical and judicial system can never go on strike."
Doctors and medical students are being 'targeted' for joining the movement in different parts of the country, the doctors' lawyers alleged at the hearing on Thursday. In response, the Supreme Court said that the doctors should join the work quickly. Their safety will be ensured.
After the hearing of the Supreme Court, it has been informed by the Resident Doctors Association of All India Medical Sciences of Delhi and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital of Delhi that the doctors will join the work.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee again wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting to bring strict laws to prevent rape. The letter also said to ensure speedy trial and exemplary punishment to the guilty. Chief Advisor to Chief Minister Alapan Banerjee informed about this letter in a press conference in Navanna on Thursday.
